Right, I'm sure his 7 year old came home all bent out of shape over the separation of church and state like he says he did. Dad needs to get a hobby for his spare time. I suggest some world religions studies which would tell him that an Easter egg hunt is not religious at all and any church advertising the Easter Bunny as the reason for the season to get people in the doors is only a threat to Christianity.

I don't have problems with kids being advertised about an easter egg hunt; as discussed above, its become a pretty secular activity regardless of recent christian adaptation (much of the 'holiday' dates back to pagan times).

I do however have concerns about any church, mosque, synagogue, temple, business, etc. advertising or promoting their events in schools. I don't think schools should be in the captive advertising business.

Easter eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal vigil and distributed to the congregants. The hard shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ, and cracking the shell represents Jesus' resurrection from the dead. Moreover, historically Christians would abstain from eating eggs and meat during Lent, and Easter was the first chance to eat eggs after a long period of abstinence. (Orthodox Christians continue to abstain from eggs during Lent.)

Easter eggs like the Christmas tree predate the holidays they were incorporated into. Even the word Easter is derived from an old pagan goddess of the dawn
