A car is seen driving through the ash from the volcano eruption under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland, April 16, 2010. The volcano erupted for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, shooting smoke and steam into the air. Flights around the world have been canceled and passengers stranded as the ash cloud from the volcano affected operations at some of the world's busiest airports.

I saw a news report with an interview with an Icelandic volcanoe expert who said the erupting volcanoe is unusual in that it has no magma chamber, the magma is only coming up a conduit from deeper in the earth. That's is it'll run out of the offending magma sooner rather than later.

It better. This is bringing the world to a standstill, and with the economy the way it is now, I dont think that is a good thing. Airports are losing hundreds of millions a day, airliners are losing, and people need to go back home and do their thing...

The Large Hadron Collider must have created a black hole that opened up the conduit from which the magma is escaping. The earth will empty itself from the inside out as the black hole gets bigger and bigger.

Run for the hills.... it's the beginning of the end. 8O

I've said it before, and I'm happy to repeat myself. Mother Nature always wins.

My poor colleague had his father pass away a couple weeks ago, so he went back to his home country for the funeral. Poland. Now he's supremely pooched. The President dies, and now all the airports he'd normally use to get back here - Warsaw, London . . . are all closed. He'll definitely have a story to tell when he makes it back.

To quote Fox Mulder: "We always have to have respect for nature because it has no respect for us."

I wonder how long it's going to keep going like this. The last time this volcano erupted it took 2 years to stop.

Everything from Zurich north has been affected at some level....

Bigger problem is almost every intercontinental flight path
goes north, towards the pole, and right into the dust.

Maybe some luck with Southern Spain - Portugal to the US.

Well, all the risk of sounding insensitive to the plight of 10's(100's?) of thousands of travellers, it IS pretty cool.
