Wary NYPD cops letting minor crimes slide

$1:
With cops on edge following the assassination of two patrol officers on a Brooklyn street, many officers have started turning a blind eye to some minor crimes, sources told The Post, while a union mandate that two patrol cars respond to all police calls has led to slower response times to non-emergencies.

New Yorkers supported both the brobdingnagian police unions and the left-wing mayor. They deserve whatever happens next.

Fire them. Along with turning their backs on the mayor at the funeral, this is insubordination pure and simple.

As long as they're still doing their jobs and obeying lawful orders I don't think it's insubordination. The police have as much right to express their displeasure as anyone else, provided they're not breaking the law while doing so.

Air Traffic Controllers had an illegal strike and Reagan fired all of the ones that didn't end their illegal strike and return to work.

A slow down in work is also an illegal job action so the NYDP are (once again) breaking the law. It would be comical if the Mayor busted the union and replaced all the NYPD that didn't return to full work.

But like Bart said, this is more or less all the fault of the New Yorkers anyway. So no matter what happens I will enjoy the outcome.

A 60% slow down in work is an illegal job action. So they are breaking the law.

+5 for use of brobdingnagian in a sentence. Although, since it referes to a specific people, it should be capitalized.

That's not the worst part IMO. The NYPD saying they're only making arrests only "when they have to". As opposed to what?

The problem is that this all part of a resistance to criticism (largely legitimate). Criticism that is necessary part of our democracy. Some of these cops are acting like they are immune from criticism and rebuke because of their badge. And power trippers like that have to be shown the door.

Didn't realize that was happening. I was only referring to the booing.

Hmmm. You're right. I had to mull that one over and thought that even if I used 'Byzantine' as a descriptive it should still be capitalized as a proper noun.

Given that parking violations alone account for $512 million of the city's current budget then the refusal on the part of the NYPD to issue said parking violations hurts when the city budget is already $2 billion in the red.

I like the part where the police union is the only one right-wingers support and the only one that left-wingers hate.

It's just a job action. No different than any other public sector union's behaviour when they're pissed off and trying to send a message.
