The more the better, we pay way too much for wireless service. But, we pay way too much for everything in Canada

Honestly I think this has to be a good thing.

Our local Saskatchewan company (Sasktel) whom I wish to really get a phone from due to the awesome service wants to charge me 227 dollars for the phone I really want and it's even worse with Telus (299 for equivalent model) and Rodgers store in the mall wanted over 300 dollars.

Ultimately I found a booth for virgin mobile which I was unfamiliar with but ultimately was very impressed with. Their price to buy the phone out without a contract....89 dollars and they still give you a 50 dollar credit if you buy the phone and hook it up.

It really makes me wonder what their profit margins on these phones are. As it stands without signing any contract virgin will only make 30 dollars on the phone.

Don't need more wireless companies, the more the better but what we need is some more bloody cable and internet provider companies. Prices are way too ridiculous.

What the internet companies should stop with, when you call that you don't have internet, is try to reset the modem (that you have already done 45 times, because your internet sucks) and then tell you: your modem is ok! Yeah, you moron, I TOLD YOU IT WAS, DIDNT I! Well, ma'am, you should have internet then. I DON'T! But that is weird because we have not have heard of it being down. MAYBE I AM JUST TELLING YOU THAT! Oh wait, I just get an email, internet in your area is down, we are sending people out there now.

Fuckers.

Eastlink is buying up small cable companies across Canada. Their plan is to offer wireless internet to rural canadians, then follow through with a project to offer cellphones too. I wish them luck, this is one industry where the consumer could benefit from more competition.

It'll be interesting to see what globalive (wind mobile) will do in the market. from what i understand they will be more on the level of Fido, Solo and Kodoo. I'm more concerned about how they actually got approval in Canada in the first place.

No doubt. Cases like this should make it easy for internal affairs to find the liberal corruption in our government.

Fido got bought by Rogers, Koodoo was created by Telus and Solo by Bell. ;) Yak = Globalive land service (coming soon). Virgin is pretty much the only 'new' company to come to Canada.

There isn't the competition in cellular that people think there is. I too dislike the ruler being set different just for this company.

wasn't Virgin bought our by Bell back in May??

I'm aware that theres no competition in Canada. You have your three main carriers who in turn each have their discount brands. The first step in the right direction was to get rid of the system access fees, yes I know this meant an increase in the base plan charge but I know in the case of Telus that you are now getting more for a lesser price than you were when you were paying those fees.

I'm looking forward to see what comes of this (good or bad)

Not that I know about. Virgin Mobile is a British company. Owned by Sir Richard Branson. Virgin Mobile in Canada is a joint venture between Virgin Mobile and Bell Canada.

It's not owned by Bell, they just use Bell's infrastructure, and get deal on the usage.
