The new research also indicates that the 310 million firearms estimated to be in private hands in the United States are disproportionately owned by people who are prone to angry, impulsive behavior and have a potentially dangerous habit of keeping their guns close at hand. That's because people owning six or more guns were more likely to fall into both of these categories than people who owned a single gun.

That's why regulating the firearms is pointless. Regulating the buyer is what should happen instead. Find some minimum standard for IQ and mental equilibrium before a firearm can be purchased. Of course the same licensing standard should be applied to anyone who wants to have children but that's a fight for a different day.

As for people that want to have children in this overcrowded, pullulating world, I think Catch 22 applies. If you want children you are ipso facto nuts, so only people who don't want children would be allowed to have them.
