If Turkey invades Syria and the Russians fight them in Syria, there is no need to invoke article 5 and it should be rejected should the Turks try to invoke it.
However, if the Turks invade Syria, and the Russians strike in Turkey, then article 5 should be invoked. If we don't respond in that case, than NATO might as well dissolve.

I'd hope not. But considering they share a border over the Black Sea and given the position of Turkey between Russia and Syria, eventually enough "accidents" would happen to warrant a response.
