CKNW reported it was some guy flying a kite with LED lights on it. Reminded me of a multi high school nerd conspiracy where we launched hundreds of UFOs over Burnaby in 1968 or 1969. They were dry-cleaner bags with hoops made of bamboo, filled with hot air from a blowtorch and candles to keep the air warm. Amazing no fires got started... some of ours even had firecrackers embedded in the candle wax.

Back in August '69 at the Paradise Valley rock festival just north of Squamish a bunch of freaks were sending up clear plastic bags filled with hot air and a couple candles to keep it hot. They must have sent up 25-30 over the weekend. Damn lucky they didn't start a nice forest fire being August....They sure looked cool though....

Tempted to teach that one to the grandkids - and supply them with a few laser pointers from the Dollar Store to dangle from it...
