Same here.

Whoever said it was geeky needs a smack upside the head. The first world war isn't some obscure, esoteric academic obsession. It was the violent end to long established European order. It was a war who's repercussions are still being felt today.

I remember a few years ago I was teaching a class of grade 11 socials students right around the time Kosovo officially gained its independence. I blew a few minds when I started the lesson by going, "Good news class. The First World War finally ended today."

I must be a super geek then. My interest in military history started when I was 9-10 years old with a fascination for WW1 and WW2. I was already reading books about both at that age.
