Why is it always Birmingham? Did they put a big sign out front when the Pakistani's were emigrating saying, Welcome to Birmingham, home of all things radical in Islam?

Seems to me it would be alot more logical to mix up the schools so these kids weren't hidden away being taught by some radical wingnuts bent on Dr. Evil type world domination.

It might mean that there would be no more religious schools, Catholic, Muslim or otherwise in the country but, at least the Gov't could actually monitor what was being taught and select who was doing the teaching.

I have a solution, make a law forbidding teaching of ANY religion in school. Have a history or geopraphy unit devoted to the worlds main religions so kids know the basics of them and teach it in one grade then drop the issue. Telling them to pick two and decide the time for each will just mean they will teach one 90% and the other negativly biased at 10%. Only solution is none at all. Leave religion to the chruch and home.

I dont say this lightly as my kids are in private Christian School. I would support it still. There are plenty of ways my school can educate the kids to be positivie citizens based on the spirit of goodness and understanding in the bible without going into religious dogma. If someone wants that, the parents can take them to whatever their religion has for a chruch.

$1:
A Christian school which claims it could face closure for failing to invite imams and other religious leaders to take assemblies has urged the government to revise controversial ‘British values’ rules.

Trinity Christian School has been told by Ofsted it is not adequately meeting the ‘spiritual, moral, social and cultural development’ of pupils.

This is because it is not ‘actively’ promoting other faiths in the wake of the Trojan Horse scandal in Birmingham, by asking different religious representatives to lead lessons and assemblies.

John Charles, chairman of governors at the small, co-educational independent school in Reading, has now written to Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan, appealing for the new regulations to be reviewed.

That was what my (secular, public) Elementary school did.

Although in grade 8, we had more of Christianity (like Canada, Dutch society is based on Christianity), ALL main religions were touched, including Atheism (although that's not a religion ;-) ). No one converted to anything and no one was expected to convert to anything. What was expected was that we understood the differences and the similarities.

Privately funded schools can teach whatever they want. Govt funded schools should all have to follow the same curriculum. Comparative religion classes are great, indoctrination classes, not so much.

I'm opposed to preaching religion in state funded schools, teaching about all religions in the form of historical or social context I can accept. That said I'm opposed to private schools based on one particular religion even where 90% of the schools student population is muslim. Teach these students in being a part of British society, and not an Islamic society. And have OFSTED in all the affected schools.
