2 Points:

1- We get issued very good kit now for Afghanistan compared to a few years ago

2- He's a 29 year old Cpl who shouldn't have to rely on mummy for money

Bloody media piss me off. What a load of BS!

Dude, if my mom did that I'd be head over heels.

New chest rig to replace shitty tac-vest, better desert boots, and a flame-retardant combat shirt would be my first items on the wishlist, followed by skydex helmet pads. Better crew goggles would also be nice (already bought), and maybe a bela clava that actually did a good job keeping the dust off face.

"Gucci kit"....socks at £14 a pair....If I was serving in a combat zone I wouldn't mind a mother like that myself. Read the comments on the story, seems to be blown completely out of context by the media. When I first read the story it reminded me about the story of Gen.Douglas MacArthur's time at West Point with mommy living across the street taking care of him

All soldiers should be so lucky to have parents like that. For those not familiar with the exchange rate, that equals about CD$6,000

Considering I receive one of those pay stubbs, then yes!

No soldier needs £3000 pounds worth of Gucci kit. The kit we get issued now is very good and best of all if it gets damaged it is replaced for free! I can understand buying a few bits and bobs but £3000 is a bit excessive.

Yea, 6000 dollars worth of gear does seem excessive. I *might* have around 1000 bucks worth of shit I bought when I go over, and I'm one of the guys with more civvie-market kit than average. Alot of what that guy had bought he really wouldn't need if supplied by the Canadian system. I don't know to much about British kit, though I heard your modular chest rigs from overseas are quite the pieces of shit. Most of the stuff we get in Canada as far as pers kit goes is really good, and when the troops fill out UCRs properly shit actually gets done, like replacing the stupid piece of shit we dare call a tactical vest. Should be called a Bosnia vest, thing only designed to hold 4 mags.

Waste of 400 dollars per vest. Should have just given soldiers that allotment to buy any one of several approved civvie-market vests. Even CPGear, who charges an arm and a leg, only charges 390 for a spectacular rig system that holds 9 mags, a zippered utility pouch, and med pouch (both of which are alot larger than coparable pouches on issued rig), two map pockets insted of one, plus a tonne of room to spare on both front and back of vest for additional pockets/pouches as mission dictates. Best part about the vest is that it is modular and can be re-jigged as mission requirements dictate, so you are never carrying too much or too little for the job.

Anyways, I could go on all day about why I personally feel the tac vest is a piece of shit, but there is a huge thread over on army.ca forums dedicated to the thing. They got most the points covered. Least I've filled out multiple UCRs on the thing (everytiime I break one or run out of ammunition).

I know what you mean, the vests we get issued are shit but the body armour we now get issued is designed to have modular pouches attached to it.

Sniv kit is nice, so long as it's what he's asked for. If it's stuff she thinks he needs, then chances are there been some money wasted.
