I've got a little working model Stirling engine that will run off the heat from your finger. They really are cool!

I think every high school science teacher has one. Pretty sure I was introduced to one of those little gadgets at age 15.

I'd put one on a molten salt heat exchanger, and put the solar on the task of making molten salt. That would iron out the downtime between sunrise, and sunset, I figure.
