I remrmber my mom died in a hospital 4 years ago. She was a brain cancer victim, has had several strokes. Poor thing could comunicate
with the staff, and they didn't care. They would leve her in her own feces, days on end. I had to check every day, and complain for hours. Till one day, I went to the hospital administration, I explained the situation, showed the pictures, and explained the law to them. The responded with the famous phrase, But Sir you must understand we are here for the patients. I offered to hire my own nurse and have her to take care of my mom full tie at the hospital. The refused, but after the local news got involved, all of sudden, she gets right away, and she gets a bath every week. Now they right to me every month, asking my for a donation. Yeah. Right.

She's in heaven now, and her pain has ended. But I will never forget the experience.

Sorry I get very emotional when I think about it. But my mom was not alone, the entire floor was a parking area for people not dying fast enough. People get treary eyed, when they see a shelter dog, but what about our elders, don't they count.

I hear ya man. My parents had the good sense to die when they were still fairly able. Didn't have to put them in one of those people warehouses.

My girlfriend is the head nurse for an extended care facility. She is one of the few there that give a shit, but she has nothing but trouble finding good staff. Most of them are just there for a good paycheque. Her biggest hurdle however is the ownership. It would be bread, gruel and sponge bathes once a week if it were up to them.

The place she used to work, several patients died. One, famously died when his electric wheelchair got stuck in the parking lot and he froze to death.

Back when I used to drive Handi-Transit, I used to pick up a lot of people from "old age homes". Most of them were horrid places to be stuck. I vowed then and there that if I ever reach the point where I need to be warehoused in one of those places, I'll put a bullet in my brain first.
