Due process?
Okay how about this. A quick arrest, a speedier trial and a faster deportation. All things which meet the criteria of international law and due process.
And when they're deported we should be sending all these sleezy ambulance chasing immigration lawyers with them.
What trial? They're attempting to enter the country illegally. Just turn em back at the 200 mile limit, or which ever one applies, and that's it. I agree about the lawyers, except that of course would not be due process.
We should just take part of Haida Gwaii and make it an illegal immigrant camp. Put up some tents, let em rot in the rain for as long as it takes the wheels of our justice system to grind. Let the lawyers stay there with their clients. Let the Haida be the camp guards, they're not doing much else anyway, give em a chance to get off welfare.
A grand idea but you know it wont' happen. Since we'll likely never find the spine to turn the ship around and send it back to its country of origin, the only way we could circumvent International law is not to arrest or detain them, which would be tatamount to giving them the keys to the city.
Hence the arrest for entering Canada illegally, the limited detention and then release on their own recognizance, till their immigration hearing.
It's bullshit but that's due process according to International Law and every scumbag immigration lawyer is probably licking his lips in anticipation of the Canadian Taxpayers money he'll be raking in soon.
