I want the population of Toronto to be aware that theyre not scared of us. They roam the forest and if theyre hungry, theyll get you, man. Theres nothing you can do about it.
Look out Toronto, the bears are coming for you and your children!
Of course they will get you if they want, you're on their turf, so you accept that risk and try and minimize it. Next time remember your bear spray and have your rifle near by. Ya it sucks what happened, but c'mon!

Well it looks like the bear concluded that if Gerald wants to get into the hunting game he would oblige him and give him a new perspective of being the hunted. For Gerald the idea of doing this and not being armed was not the best idea.

He was eating my meat and he was licking the blood and licking himself and just enjoying every bite of it.
This sentence taken out of context is awesome, reminds of a bad porno from the 70's

Alright, if you are going into a area that has bears. Heres a tip, bring something to kill it or atleast do a better job defending yourself. C'mon, a lighter? That's all you brought, as a hunter who should know there are bears there. No offense to the dude but the fact he got ripped to shreds was his own fault. For the fact he diddn't prepare himself for the area he was in. That's like a soldier going to war without any ammo. It's just stupid.
He thinks many bears should be hunted just because this guy ventured in there domain and was stupid enough to not bring anything to defend himself with? Nature is nature, it's not civilized. You don't take a trip to africa and visit the wild without a strong vehicle with windows or bars or some guide with a gun. Nature deserves to be left alone, majority of this planet is occupied by humans. Wildlife is needed wherever it can be. It doesn't need to be exterminated everytime some dipshit goes into the devils playground without being prepared. Sorry but I am just tired of people killing off animals because of some moron.

wow attacked by a bear and by idiots on this forum, so now every time a person is to go into the forrest they are to be armed to the teeth? Gerald Marois should have his hand shook, he defended himself against a bear attack WITH A F*CKING LIGHTER and lived to tell, that's the shit legends are made of.
Bacardi, do bring a weapon that would defeat a bear with you every time you walk in the bush? do you know what kind of shit you would get in if you bring a firearm on to crown land when it is not hunting season? MNR would RAPE you. he is not a paranoid man, and lets face it, getting attacked by a bear isn't exactly the first thing a person thinks of when going into the bush, even experienced hunters.
yes he admitted that he forgot his bear spray at home, a mistake he almost paid for with his life, and will be reminded of for the rest of his life. he is not an idiot, a dipshit or a moron he is a man who made a mistake....and subsiquently engaged in unarmed combat with a bear.
it is only a matter of time until the bear population becomes too much for the little patches of forrest here and there and they start to venture into the towns and yes they will attack people in towns. There is a reason why there was a bear hunt, getting rid of it was a mistake and i only hope no one else has to pay like Gerald has.

When I go hiking I bring the .45 with mercury tipped hollow points. Yes, I have a permit for this so don't go making a stink about it. Have I ever needed it? Nope, not once. But just in case I do it'll be there for old Mr. Bear...or, in the case of California, the much more numerous mountain lion.

The most interesting part of this article is: $1: “I want (Premier Dalton McGuinty) to reconsider the spring bear hunt, so this doesn’t happen no more.” We have both a spring and a fall bear season in Saskatchewan and most black bears I have seen have a healthy respect for people, associating them with the phrase:"Bang, I'm a rug." It is not just lower populations that hunting effects, it's the bears attitude. We also have wolves that like to drag bears out of their winter dens and kill them so they don't like to be about large dogs. I am however, a little skeptical of the claim that a 600 lb boar can climb trees.

Heavy_Metal Heavy_Metal: awww who are you kidding bart....you're strapped when you go grocery shopping, you damn krazy yanks Well, yeah. What the heck's the point of a carry permit if you don't carry? Heavy_Metal Heavy_Metal: mercury tipped.....never heard of that ammo before, nothing says i want you dead like a f*cking mercury tipped round So the mercury tipped hollow point started as a military thing. Technically, because the round is filled it is not a hollow point for treaty purposes and is a legal round. The mercury is heavier and denser than lead so it imparts a greater force on impact and it essentially explodes on impact. A standard .45 will make a nasty wound if you got hit in the shoulder but a square hit from one of these makes a ghastly wound. To be correct, the mercury is actually an amalgam (like a paste) and not a liquid.

Their might be more attacks to come in Ontario. $1: Harris’s provincial government ended the spring bear hunt in 1999 after it had been in place for 30 years. Critics called the spring hunt “barbaric” because it often left behind thousands of orphaned cubs. All other Canadian provinces with bears have spring hunts except Nova Scotia. Ontario still has a fall bear hunt, which starts in September. Better that humans go parentless as opposed to bears. My uncle is a hunting guide for bear hunters out west he said the bear population is just fine.
