maldonsfecht maldonsfecht: seeing as his victim was a chinese citizen, can we please send him to their prisons and be done with him forever? Good idea. I don't relish the thought of paying for this bastard's 3 meals and a comfy bed for the next 25 --- errr 10 years --- errr 5 years hanging out with Vince. Let the Chinese have him.

Nah, I bet he goes to jail. Unlike Li, Magnotta's attack was premeditated, planned and described in detal in advance, and he boasted about it and taunted the public afterwards. Magnotta's a nut job, but he's a criminally responsible nut job.

Unlike Li whom I think deserves the not criminally responsible, this POS just might get it through some sleazy legal tactics.

Magnotta's a nut job, but he's a criminally responsible nut job. He does appear to have been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Claiming mental disorder is about the only hope he's got. I read somewhere that he also ate part of the body - if that's true, that may help him - look, I'm just like Vince Li. Looks like Vince has started a whole new trend in how to be crazy.

Oh for sure a defence lawyer would insitinctively try to go there, but like Breivik in Norway, Magnotta probably won't accept that as a defence, given his extreme narcissism. Even if he did, Magnotta's posts show that he KNEW that these acts were criminal, and that he relished in the idea of being a criminal. Shortly before the attack, he even referred to himself in one communication as "necrophilia serial killer Luka Magnotta" so I doubt he'll get off on the insanity plea.

Magnootta has identified himself as mentally ill, nobody else has so far - so he may never have been diagnosed. Since he seems to see himself as a victim, I doubt he'll have any reluctance to be deemed mentally ill. He gets more attention that way too. I think by definition he's mentally ill, as is Bernardo, say. But that doesn't mean they can't understand the morality of their actions, the way Li supposedly couldn't, so I agree he likely won't get off.

I'm sure in the Winnipeg Free Press today it was mentioned in passing in part of a story that he spent time in a psych ward in Montreal or something. I left the paper at Sals so I can't quote it. If he has EVER been in a psych ward his lawyer will play off this and if he's an especially greasy lawyer he will point to all the witness so far that said something was off with him as an example about how easily mental health issues are missed or ignore in our society.
To sum up members of the Jury, society let him down, society did this to themselves, don't punish the messenger punish the source. We should all look at ourselves in the mirror to see who is truly guilty here!
Off to vomit now.

Yeah, I'd agree with that though I suspect he'll go with the mentally ill and he'll go with the didn't really know his actions were bad. That being said, we'll find out soon enough.
