I don't have any problem in principle towards a gun registry, but imo, what they should've done was impliment it like the helmet rule in hockey: from 'this' point in time onwards anyone purchasing a rifle will have to register it. Any rifle already owned would be exempt.

This would've saved a hell of a lot of time, money, frustration....

yup. I agree. Plus people still don't know the difference between licensing and registration. There is allot of miss-information out there...

I think the problem is that theres no logical reason to have guns registered. If there stolen, knowing where there stolen from doesnt help. I can understand the reasons why we might want to ban guns but I dont get what a list of owners does for us.

The registration of handguns worked soooooo good at keeping them out of the hand of criminals.....we can only hope the long gun registration works half as good

For the same reason we have license plates on cars. You can know if theyre really stolen or if someone is selling them out the back door, especially if they havent been reported. It also makes the registered owner take better care of them, the same way having a license plate and vehicle registration helps keep people from driving irresponsibly. If there was no registration, there would be no easy way of knowing where a murder weapon came from and who it belonged to.

BTW, all Rock said was that the registry wont stop EVERY crime, (what does?) he didnt say it was useless. The police are behind it and I would assume they would know best whether its a useful tool or not.

A list of registered firearms makes it easier to seize them when they are eventually banned. And that is EXACTLY what happened in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, New York City, Washington DC, and etc.

The anti-gun crowd agitates for registration because they know that it's the first logical step to seizing firearms.

So do you also think there is a secret plot afot to seize boats, cars and household pets, because those are all supposed to be registered too.

Toronto is no safer because of it's gun ban and seizures.

Cars are registered and licensed because drivers must be held accountable for their driving mistakes because that could cause injury or death. That's completely different than a a shotgun or rifle that only gets pulled out every second hunting season. If a hunter shoots someone or something, their definitely not going to use the registry to find him and cops definitely can't use the registry to ensure their safety when they knock on the door of a grow op or crack house.

ummmm YES there was a massive seizure, don't spread bullshit. AND there was a massive seize here in Canada as well.
