You'd think that people in all levels of gov't would understand that cheaper doesn't always mean better. Especially when "keeping the cost down" actually hurts your own people and benefits a foreign gov't that's continually threatened and intimidated our country.

Be nice to see a bunch of "Canada First" laws passed by the governments. Of course that would have to include making central and eastern Canada get more of their oil and gasoline from Canadian sources instead of Saudi or American ones so we automatically know that such laws will never be passed.

I feel sorry for the steel workers though. Alberta bought a massive amount of steel product from Ontario when times were good out here so seeing those jobs get wrecked by more of our patented short-sightedness on these issues is terrible. More families in peril, thanks to making a shithole dictatorship like China the focal point of the world economy. Sucks when your own country tosses you on the scrap heap in order to make foreign suppliers wealthier. Such is the result of the last forty years of fiscal & trade policy in North America.

Of course the bid from China was lower. Cheap materials. Cheap labour.
