Anyone who thinks men and women are treated the same, recall Lloyd Robertson and Peter Mansbridge announcing their retirements long ahead of time, and finishing off their contracts on their own terms.

Including greying hair.

Scape Scape:

This Melling guy sounds like the kind of corporate ladder climber who, makes his way up by climbing the still warm bodies of all the people he's backstabbed.

Ratings show Lisa LaFlamme’s CTV newscast one of Canada’s most popular, raising questions over Bell Media’s decision to end contract

Watch the rating flame out now. Shareholders are going to riot.

We do watch the CTV news channel and I always liked the way she presented herself and delivered the news. She was certainly one of the best, even in comparison with other newscasters on other networks.

Internal politics can suck and it sounds like there was a real power struggle going on there.

As far as the grey hair issue... I certainly hope this was not a factor because that would be complete bs.

From the sounds of it the new boss was a hatchet man who made his name cutting and did not take to anyone having clout. As long as he was the big fish in a small pond that was fine but this was a huge embarrassment for Bell. LaFlamme clearly did NOT play along with the exit strategy, saw an opening and waited till she was clear contractually and then posted on he own social media to make sure that Bell did not control the narrative and it blew up in their face.

She knew there was no going back so she waited to make her shot count. She knew where her clout lay and it wasn't in the boardroom it was in the living room. Best bit is they still have to pay out her contract.

And now CTV will have to pay the hidden cost of all the negative press that this power tripping snake has caused. Here’s hoping he’s the next one to lose his job at CTV.

Office politics totally suck!!! As far as the grey hair goes, not too many people can rock grey hair.......but she absolutely does!!! I think that she is a damn good looking woman with her grey hair!

Hopefully she sues those asshats at CTV into oblivion for age and sex discrimination. If I were on the jury I would be adding some serious zeros to the settlement.

Fuck Michael Melling !!!

Melling getting scapegoated by the board is the only way for them to save face with the stockholders at this point. He was only doing their bidding however. Big flagship newscasts are not the most effective use of their equity especially when there are two other networks doing it just as well but their idea of renovating the brand was frankly amateur hour.

The sexism aspect I think was overplayed. So many articles I read they keep trying to compare her to Mansbridge and Robertson. I was always a Knowlton Nash fan myself, that man was the news. Mansbridge had the broadcast voice and could read a teleprompter competently enough and Lloyd was great in his own right but to be frank we aren't waiting for the next Cronkite at supper anymore. We have all moved on and the business model is not sustainable. The axe was always coming and CBC will die trying to chase after past glory but the private market simple doesn't have the attention span for it and neither does the supporting advertisers.

I think both Andrew Chang and Ian Hannomansing have that same broadcast quality voice. They are also both fantastic journalists. So is Adrienne Arsenault, and many of the guest hosts they have, like Anita Bathe.

CBC also has the advantage of putting all their nightly broadcasts online on their own site, and Youtube. I don't generally watch CTV or Global broadcasts, because I don't have cable and the only other option is OTA in poor digital quality. So I have to go over the internet for my news.
