"The idea behind the credit is to compensate for the harsh conditions in detention facilities."

Because these people deserve to get 5 star treatment?

Just another reason the senate needs to be elected or abolished

I hope that's not our cue to start pompoously informing you that you 'don't understand our system'.

I heard Sen. Larry Campbell on the radio defending this crap. Sober second thought and all but I can't remember an example of the senate modifying anything the Chretien or Martin government did. He was also very shakey when the fact that Iffy and the Lib parliament approved this as it was.

Appointed, un-accountable senators changing laws "because they know best".

These senators should resign, for their contempt for the people of Canada who want this law change

"Unelected senators shouldn't be standing in the way of the unanimous will of the House when it comes to important laws," Layton said. "This is another example why we shouldn't have unelected law makers in this country and that the Senate should be abolished."

This is an auspicous day friends. It's the first time in my entire life that I agree with Jack Layton..........on anything. 8O

To be honest I think Jack is just trying to portray himself as the anti-Iggy. Siding with the Conservatives on this is probably going to keep him up all night in tears (as if waking up next to Olivia doesn't already do that 8O )!

Et tu, Brute?

Furthering the intrigue is that some of the senators supporting the amendments supported Liberal MP Bob Rae in his failed leadership run. Rae has refused to criticize the senators' decision, leaving the impression of a divide between him and his former rival Ignatieff.
