I actually watched a soccer game last night;

Chelsea and Tottenham.

To watch Tottenham draw and lose out to Leicester.

Leicester payroll: 57 million
Man United: 320 million

5000 to 1 odds to win the Premiership.

Perfect. [B-o]

Cinderella story much? 8O

But who would have ever thought that if you put a buck down you'd get 5K back? There must be a ton of bookies in England foaming at the mouth although, on the plus side next year everybody will be putting money down on the longshots and my guess is that this rags to riches story won't be repeated. :P

Oh yeah te bookies are cyring today. And not even on the 5000-1 odds. When things were starting to look Leicester's way the odds dropped to 500-1 and then 100-1 and a lot more people put money on those odds. Many crocodile tears are being shed.

At a glance it looks like there were only a couple hundred people that got in on the big odds, and half of them didnt have the gonads to hang in there and ended up selling their tickets early.

I must admit I love stories like this!

I don't follow this sport at all but to see a team beat the odds like this is priceless! Good for them.

I'm thinking at least one of the people I know who made some money got in at the 500-1 odds. He has the money to feel comfortable doing that kind of long shots. Anyone who got in at the 5000-1 probably paid only a couple of bucks as a joke kind of bet.

Definitely. And now they are laughing all the way to the bank. Even ax£5 bet just made someone £25,000.

Bookies are already saying they won't offer odds like that anymore.

One guy took a 30k payout when he could have made 200k. But I gotta admit I would have been tempted too to take 30k for certain vs the long shot.

Do they not have national betting in Britain? You'd think more than a couple hundred people in the whole realm would have taken a flyer with those odds. On pretty well any bet.

Fair play to Chelsea who fought tooth and nail to stop Tottenham. That was a tough physical contest.

Obviously, Ranieri is the toast of the town but some credit for Leicester's performance must go to the previous manager on two occasions, Nigel Pearson, a remarkable character whose turbulent career has a touch of Brian Clough about it:

Of course, the bookies love these stories of massive payouts. Keeps the punters coming in. Hope can be very bad you.

I'm putting a tenner on newly-promoted Burnley to win it next season.

The Foxes fans weren't too keen on Ranieri - who was known as the Tinkerman when he was manager of Chelsea between 2000 and 2004 because of the amount of times he rotated the squad- when he was appointed their manager last year after Nigel Pearson left. Now he is a club legend and there should be a statue of him erected outside the King Power. I think there's also talk of a movie.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Leicester City fan and former Leicester City player Gary Lineker hosting the first episode of next season's MOTD in nothing but his underwear (not that I'm queer).
