Our tax dollars hard at work.....
I'd sure like to see just what percentage of the federal budget goes to Indian and Northern Affairs.

I just sent my MP an email asking him that very question. What percentage of the Canadian Federal budget goes to Indian and Northern affairs and just what percentage of the population of Canada does that encompass?

$1: Ms. Clarke runs a reserve of 87 people. The first nation also includes another 217 living off-reserve. What does a mayor make? The PM? An MP?

A hell of a lot less then that Brenda, and the average mayor in Canada I'm sure governs a lot larger population base than just 87 people.

QBC QBC: A hell of a lot less then that Brenda, and the average mayor in Canada I'm sure governs a lot larger population base than just 87 people. If I remember correctly, mayors of small towns (let's say under 1000 people) still need to work another job to make a living, the mayor job is not full time and councillors get a fraction of what the mayor gets. A search on the net only turned up a salary of $779/month for a small NorCal town.

“They have singled out native communities in a way that deepens prejudice and reinforces stereotypes, and that is not fair,” she said.
oh it deepens prejudice alright, you tart, but not against natives: against scheister fuckers who are happy to live high on the hog at the expense of the working man. lady, you are no different than the white-devil elites who stole this country from your ancients.

Brenda, this woman was one of 222 band leaders who earned more than provincial premiers. This accounts for more than a third of all band leaders, which stands at just over 600.
She potentially is also in the same group of almost 90 band leaders who earned more than the Prime Minister. This does not include money given by contracts or from running businesses -- which the Prime Minister and most Premiers do not get.
This is only the chiefs. Consider that a lot of these people, such as this reserve, have a council which also rakes in the big bucks. I wonder how much money they are making in general -- and how much more it is than premiers are making? From the hints some of these articles have dropped, I have a feeling their salaries are fairly sizable as well.

This article did in fact mention some of her council's salaries: Her councillors, some of whom filled more than one job, got a total of between $210,000 and $260,000 each. And on top of his political work, one councillor, Mike Halliday, earned an additional $718,000 through band-awarded contracts.

Brenda Brenda: $1: Ms. Clarke runs a reserve of 87 people. The first nation also includes another 217 living off-reserve. What does a mayor make? There's a small town in northern British Columbia with a population of approximately 3500 people. Their counselors, I know, make $13,000 per year. Even if the mayor makes 10X that (which is unlikely), that would put him at $130,000 (If I remember correctly, and I've been trying like crazy to remember, I think the mayor makes somewhere in the neighbourhood of $30-35K/year, but I'm far from certain). Convert that to $ per capita, and once again, the natives are making out like bandits.

Oh, it is totally ridiculous. But hey, the "doing well" can bitch about the "doing not so well" for not taking responsibility, so I figured I can bitch about voters who didn't address this in the first place and let it come this far. I guess this is the responsibility of the Canadian, since it is tax-money, no?
Just like welfare and rent assistance is...
