$1:
The plaintiff, Inga Richardson, jumped out of a moving car at the crescendo of a fight with her common-law spouse. She suffered grave brain damage and injuries to her entire body after bouncing along the pavement of a three-lane artery in Oshawa, Ont.

Her lawyers – David MacDonald and Adrienne Kirsh – allege in a statement of claim that Ms. Richardson’s partner, Joey Sanayhie, ought to have supervised her copious consumption of alcohol at a party that night and prevented her from harming herself on the way home.

So is there a country one could move to where this sort of legal insanity doesn't happen? If this suit succeeds, you'd be insane to give anybody a ride you suspect has been drinking, or force them to ride in the trunk.

So no cabdriver will take you home anymore, you will not be able to take the bus, your DD-friend will tell you to f*ck off, and the bartender will be sued for selling you too much booze...

And we really blame computer/video-games for the "lack of social skills"?

There are groups like operation red nose that provide designated drivers over the holidays. How would any of these drivers have any knowledge of a persons intentions or behaviours when they are drunk? A designated drivers duty is to keep the roads safe from drunks, not babysit some idiot passenger.

Well since the driver was her boyfriend, and she had jumped out of a boat before, he should have known she would jump out of the car on a highway, and tied her up before giving her a ride. Can you imagine the outcry if he'd driven off without her, and she got raped or otherwise injured while making her own way home.

That's what we want to do, discourage designated driving.

Lets hope sanity wins the day.

That still is not his responsibility, but hers. If she cannot handle booze, she shouldn't drink.

No doubt,it's as if society is drifting further and further away from any personal responsibility at all.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Maybe for Brenda, being tied up by her husband is not something outrageous for her. 8)

Wow, at first I thought this happened in the US, you know, where a person can sue someone else just for breathing funny. I can't believe this is even making it to court.

That's really the problem - just the trouble and expense of having to defend yourself against something like this is discouraging. I sure hope the woman loses, and they have to pay the guy's court costs.

They live in the same house, methinks it doesnt matter who pays for it, it will be him anyway, since she requires 24/7 care.

I wonder who took this to court in the first place? :?
