The UN is as useless as tits on a boar, as is this bullshit climate conference. Until India and China are brought under strict control...and no, I don't hold to that if we did they can do it too crap. When we did it, there was very little understanding or technology to understand and curtail emmisions. Now they have the means to produce cleaner industries but refuse to do so. It isn't a big brown smudge, that you can see from space, hanging over NA and Europe now is it?

If I understand the article correctly Layton is saying he wants pressure put on the government to pass some tax and control bill the NDP is putting forward. This bill, he says, will make Canadians look good to the UN guys running the Copenhagen climate conference. It will be an apple for teacher.

He says, of his bill, "it would send the world a strong message that the Canadian public and its elected representatives want to take action."

But hang on a sec. Didn't we just fight an election on this issue. Wasn't the main platform of the major opposition something called "The Green Shift"? More Canadians voted against that nonsense than voted for it.

Layton sure as Hell didn't win any right to claim to speak for the majority of Canadians, so where does he get off using terms like "the Canadian public"?

It reminds me of that old Lone Ranger joke, where the Lone Ranger and Tonto are surrounded by hostile Indians. "Whataya mean WE, white man?"

The fist time that I read the headline, I didn't see the word "greenhouse" and just about fell out of my chair :)

This "everyone is for Kyoto" crap scares me and it's something we need to kill. This sets up a race to waste as much money as possible with no actual results and this government is in as deep as the others.
Maybe we need some kind of referendom.

Even the Europeans are showing signs of beginning to wake up. Who's Layton talking about when he's talking about making Canada presentable to "the world" with his watermelon, climate bill. He's not talking about this guy.

I pass greenhouse-gas. Usually in the bathroom, but sometimes I save it for the elevator. :D
