There is a memorial to this
on Vancouver Island, towards Tofino.

I have a picture somewhere, have to find it.

Can't find it. :(

The fact that the memorial is out in the absolute middle of nowhere
doesn't help.

Norm Christie has a series on Korea.

Why would they have put the Memorial out there?

There's got to be some significant historical reason, either that or the Gov't doesn't want to properly acknowledge the battle since no one in their right mind would put a military memorial out in Hippie Central. 8O

It's the part of Canada closest to Korea.

Other than that, no idea.

Victoria or Nanaimo would have been much better choices.

It's off highway 4, between Tofino airport and Tofino,
next to a place called Radar Hill.

Absolute middle of nowhere.

When I was training in the Militia/Reserves, the barracks at CFB Griesbach was Kapyong Barracks.

Certainly a battle that ranks right up there with Vimy Ridge. I think I remember reading somewhere that the Canadians handed out a 100:1 death toll on the Chinese during the battle.

It's funny cuz I just finished watching a program where a Canadian veteran was talking about how some of the British officers referred to the Canadians as "cowboys" during WW2.

Apparently that reputation was still well earned in Korea. [B-o]

Well the British and the French said Vimy couldn't be taken but Canada did so in four days. The Germans sure as hell didn't like facing the Canadians.

Nope, they sure didn't. The German commander at Vimy had written the day of the attack, "And there arrayed before us were England's 4 finest assault battalions, the Canadians."

Calling our soldiers "stormtroopers" also, was high praise indeed.
