Only if his comments are attributed to all Muslims, rather than the ones he specifically points out as being extremists. Any civilized person thinks they and any who share similar values are scum. To counter your point, Simmons who dislikes organized religion also supported Tebow for his unabashed faith, that many oh so `tolerant` liberals ridicule.

I will never understand why people care what Gene Simmons thinks or says. Or celebrity worship in general. I'm married to someone who thinks Michael Jackson is a saint for example, and I dare not bring it up.
