CBC News reached out to Khan's law office directly, which said in an email it had no comment.

The circumstances of the reported travel review aren't clear. Neither Khan nor Ramsay Inc. would provide specifics about what the review entailed or say more about the "turn of events."

Asked who issued the notice of review to Khan, Bob Ramsay told CBC News, "I don't know exactly who it was, but I do know for sure that it was American."

In a statement to CBC News, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it does not contact travellers in advance of their travel out of the United States.

"With respect to Global Entry or trusted traveller membership, CBP's engagement is about the status of membership in the program, not any particular travel itself," the statement said, adding that any U.S. citizen with a passport can travel without trusted traveller status.

The agency would not comment on Khan's claim, citing privacy considerations.

1) You're wrong that the story "shouldn't have been run." A recognizable US media figure cancelled a large planned event in Canada. That's news, no matter what excuse he gives and no matter whether you believe his excuse or not.

2) A story that you personally judge to "not have been run" - even without your dumbass reasoning - isn't what makes something "fake news".

"Fake News" is when you report something false, like pizzagate, or how the sun was shining during your inauguration speech when it was actually raining, or how you had a larger crowd than your predecessor when in fact you had an obviously smaller crowd, or how crime is at a decades-long high when in fact it's at a low, or how you won by the largest electoral college vote and when in fact you didn't even come close to that or how millions of illegal immigrants voted for your opponent when in fact they didn't or how the former president was wiretapping you when in fact he wasn't or any of the other 100,000 lies your side has invented since the start of the campaign.
