Nice! So farm workers don't deserve a safe workspace, and if they get injured on the job, too bad.

Jason Kenney: Not even once!

Between this and his idiotic stance on education...I ain't even gonna bother with looking at UCP's platform until Kenney is gone.

Guy is a tool...and not the useful type.

...I was going to say, calling him a tool is an insult to tools. Tools are actually useful.

Could just be me, but I don't call any of my useful tools...well, tools.

When they are useful, I always call them by their name, or their function, "pass me my cordless, or toss me the Dewalt."

But, when they are useless, it I always refer to them as just a tool...like it has feelings and by negating it's function, maybe I can emotionally shake it into working properly again.

Then again...I may really be losing it.

Any who, I am hoping to convey his degenerative status as a nonfunctioning human being.

[huh]

Jason Kenny says he's going to look at replacing the Farm Employment "rules" because of a lack of "proper consultation" and suddenly the people on here start claiming that he's going to dismantle the whole system and remove all protections farm workers now enjoy?

Allow me to point out that first, he has to get elected and secondly as a politician do you honestly believe he'll keep his word especially when it would be so much easier to leave the regulations in place and keep bashing the NDP about them?

In the grand scheme of Alberta politics this is pretty minor and not worth the effort of worrying about till he actually tries to carry it out, if he ever does.

He didn't say 'look at', he said 'axe'.

He's been harping on this ever since he became leader, since it was the NDPs first bill after their election.

It gave Farm workers the same rights as in the rest of Canada. So no, they didn't consult with the big businesses that own farms, they looked at the rest of Canada and did what everyone else does. And that is pretty important, here in Farm country. When people hear 'Alberta' they think 'oil', but agriculture is our 2nd largest industry.

It also doesn't help that Toolio has only pushed BS on this front, since day one.

He really likes to push the 'family' angle, when there is no family angle. The act specifically exempts family members.

He follows that up with pushing the 'untested' angle, another rancher sized heap of steaming...since Alberta took most of our new legislation from BC's existing legislation.

BC saw the following:

farm fatality rate was reduced by 68%
farm injury rate was reduced by 52%
serious injury rate was reduced by 41%

Those are exceptional numbers for a new safety policy, and I sincerely hope those numbers happen here as well.

My mistake he did say "repeal it". But I still think he's playing to his base and it likely won't result in him actually dismantling it wholesale.

But when you said the rest of Canada I got interested so, here's an interesting article on all the provinces Farm Workers regulations.

Typical of the party that pretends to serve the average worker, but actually only serves the monnied class. Does Kenny even realize that the new farm legislation only put in place what other provinces already had?

Unfortunately people these days are so reactionary angry against the NDP that most of them will gladly toss farm workers under the bus in the insane belief that Kenney is single-handedly going to bring back the "good ol' days" of life prior to the oil price collapse. It's gonna be a repeat of the worst impulses of the Klein years, where anyone (for example) on social assistance got tossed the wolves and demonized as parasites. The public went along with it which just made it easier and more popular for Klein to hammer down even harder on those that had been made into sacrifices for the mythology that was built up around him.
