LOL!!!! I remember this story. I was visiting the inlaws in New Brunswick many, many years ago. This story was being told on a local TV station about how it pertained to New Brunswick with the invasion of Campobello Island. The inlaws were of Irish decent, and happened to have the same last name of the architect of the Fenian raids: John O'Neill. I was razzing the mother in law how her ancestors were a bunch of terrorists. That went over like a lead balloon. She was very pro Irish as this was an Irish enclave of settlers in a prodominately French area of the Province. She was also very pro Canadian having lost several family members in WW1 and WW2. I learned my place real quick!!! No more joking around about these things. She was good people. All of them were. Hardy stock the lot of them. They never seemed to catch a break in life, but all their misfortune could not drag them down or break their spirit. Thats my take on the Irish people that I have known.
Damn I miss Atlantic Canada!!!
