Oh, good grief. I moved to North-western Saskatchewan in 1976. There were white tail deer all the way up to Laloche then and local hunters were not scratching their heads about them. They follow the roads. They are animals of grassland/woodland ecotones. A 350 km.long road allowance is 350 km. habitat for WTD. So are powerlines (without the attendant speeding predators.) It would have been cheaper to get SGI to hand over animal collision data starting in the early '60's.
