$1:
That said, an experiment dealing with logic problems cant necessarily be generalized to bigger, messier beliefs and arguments like vaccines or climate change. When individuals beliefs are more tied up with political and cultural identities, there are likely to be other influences on peoples decision to question and change their beliefs

So, this experiment could have been explained away by simply saying what everyone already knows.

Makes me recall the thread I did one time where I took a bunch of Obama quotes and attributed them to George Bush. The usual suspects weighed in and trashed the comments and in some cases even debunked them in detail all while insulting Bush as a retard for even saying such things.

Got nothing but crickets after I noted that Obama had actually said those things.

That's Binary (formal) logic. (IIRC Boole turned 200 just the other day!)

The article is more Philosophical logic as in; "if there are truths that must be true, what makes them so?"

Boolean logic helped me to become adept at troubleshooting the old "Crossbar" type switching telephone exchanges before I ever got into computer systems. It also served me well in day to day life.

As it does me. [B-o] It's great for problem solving!

But 'Philosophical logic' helps me out quite a bit too. Keeps me from adopting ways of thinking that may be correct, if you view them from an emotional perspective. Helps me avoid 'traps' that others fall for.

Yes emotion and logic make bad bed fellows.
