More than ever, we are going to have to trust the source of news. Sites that rely on 'clickbait' to drive traffic are not to be trusted with these sorts of videos available.

According to the ABC interview I saw on the internet last week Lord Palmerston said the drama over the fake videos is just hype.

Wasn't it Einstein who was debating with Isaac Newton?

Sad but true. As this technology is perfected, things will only get worse as more and more nefarious applications for this are found.

Like the article mentions, politics is next which will only further exacerbate the balkanization happening.

Porn is next, with celebrities being embedded into porn clips. Though, at least with these two public arenas, there is some recourse. Sites like Snopes will be around to debunk Deepfake videos and celebrities can still sue to have offending clips taken down as best they can.

But what happenes if/when this becomes widespread? When people can take a video of the girl next door and then splice overtop their favourite porn, what then? Or maybe someone uses this tech to slime a coworker into getting fired?

This is a particular pernicious Pandora's Box that has been opened.

That actually happens already. Porntube has a forum for it. Want to see Mila Kunis or Cameron Diaz? They have it.
