The most interesting part of this story for me was not that it was reaffirming what has been discussed time and again about Mars, but talking about a real divergence of theories -- I've read papers like this one, but there's other theories that the only water supported on Mars was underground, since the atmosphere on Mars is incredibly "windy" and thin, which isn't very condusive to large or even small water bodies.
It'll be interesting to see where this divergence is going to go in the long term, and can't wait to see what new discoveries are going to come around the next time I check the site.
