Seem like there is a story every other week on how the McGuinty government is ripping off Ontarians.

Of course the price of booze is going up! It's another 'cash cow'. The priceof booze & smokes will continue to rise faster than anything else because no one is going to give up their addiction because of pricing. And the govts know this and use it!

Did you read the article?

"While Premier Dalton McGuinty wants savings passed on to consumers, the LCBO has a policy of “social responsibility” which prevents them from bringing prices down to a level which would encourage alcohol abuse."

This one's on the LCBO, not the Liberal government.

I assume you know who owns and operates the LCBO?

This is just another case of Ontario rolling over and taking it, why is no one outraged, where is the petition to hold a referendum? At least in BC they have the balls to fight it. Everyone will complain and no one likes but everyone just sits on their asses and lets the government have their way with your wallet.

How does it feel to be a sheep?

HST hasn't gotten the same kind of media play that it has out in BC. Most people do not know this is coming.

I'm not far from packing my bags and renting my house out.

Owns, yes, operates, no. But this is an excellent time to re-open the privatization debate for the LCBO. That was a part of McGuinty's platform during his first run at premier.

The pub just reopened here and a mug is $5.75 up from $4.50
Which means you're gonna pay a buck more and the waitress gets half the tips anywhere else.
Here 90% of people are so goddam cheap they don't tip at all in a bar. No shit, they look at me like Im a showoff when I give her a $5 and refuse the change every time, and they're too fucking stupid to figure out why my table gets served fast and they wait. 50 lousy cents...

Brew Your Own should be even more popular. I bought a couple of Tsing-Taos for a buck each from 7-11. Even good European beers are fairly cheap and available here.

What sickens me is they can't even be honest about why they are increasing their prices.
Seriously, are they telling us that a 10-25 cent decrease in a bottle of booze/wine is going to encourage heavier drinking and impaired driving?
And this is their excuse for actually raising the overall price instead of just adjusting it for the decrease.

I remember when politicians and gov't organs put some imagination in their bullshit stories. Now, it's like they don't even try.
