Hybrids just don't have much appeal when gasoline in the US usually costs around $0.75 per liter.

Bet they sell a ton of Lincoln Navigators, though.

The U.S. is always a bit behind.

Maybe not but we tend not to buy obscene gas pigs in large numbers, either. When I cross the border, I notice that the types of cars change ... get a lot bigger. It's subsidized by cheap Canadian fuel, among other things.

Okay. Top two selling vehicles in Canada are full size trucks.

That we aren't that different in our purchases. We buy trucks and SUV's, both "gas guzzlers" as much as the US does. Depending where you live in Canada trucks would far outnumber cars. Pretending we're better and buy more economy models is a lie.

Here's a list of US vehicles purchased for 2013,

Not much difference from our purchases.

I notice in Vancouver there's way more smart cars, bikes and electric cars than there ever has beeen. It makes sense in an urban environment, especially in BC where we have probably the highest gasoline taxes ourtside of Europe.

The technology is going to continue to develop though. I wouldn't be surprised if China, wiht their centrally controleld economy, simply mandates a switch to electric in heavily polluted areas. That will certainly drive the technology.

We buy far more compact cars and prefer small SUV's to large ones vs the US. I don't know if that makes us better.
