Health Canada says irradiated ground beef products must be labelled as such.

You guys are hilarious! Your computer gives off radiation. So do the lights in your house. And your cell phone. Are you afraid of them? No!

Because when you turn them off, the radiation stops. Just like Gamma Radiation used to sterilize meat. It's 'ionizing radiation' that is the dangerous kind, not 'Electromagnetic radiation'.

Not sure what the hoopla is about irradiating beef? I have no issue with it at all. For those of you that do you had better recycle your microwave...

Zap the meat get rid of ecoli etc and no one get sick. The real problem is that the abbatoir's processes are such that the meat gets contaminated in the first place.

I guess now the sloppy processors will use radiation as a really cheap alternative to keeping things clean.

A crash course in the differences between wave radiation versus particulate radiation is called for but at this moment in our societal devolution it would most likely be a waste of time.

Exactly. And the reliance on feedlots to fatten cattle also contributes to the increase of disease. Cattle also aren't meant to eat grains, and the excess sugars they contain are also playgrounds for bacteria, so they are given antibiotics to calm their incredible flatulence and upset stomachs.

So instead of grass feeding cattle, let's just risk antibiotic resistance wiping us out and irradiate everything instead. :x

Vaccines are frequently irradiated. Not that I have a problem with that but just figured I'd toss this into the mix for [popcorn]

Yup. They are irradiated for the same reason the beef is. To kill viruses, bacteria and microorganisms.

To make them safe for people. [popcorn] ;)

It can't be any worse than what happens to the beef between the time it leaves its source to the time it hops into those trays at the store as it is now.

Maybe it makes the pink slime glow in the dark. That would be a consumer plus!
