I didn't think he got him that much from the angles they showed in the hilights the other night. The overhead shot shows he got him pretty good.

That was quite a smack. It's not some scrub ice player swinging a stick either. They should be fined for breaking a stick like that anyway. It sends the wrong message to kids saying that it's okay to break a $300 stick because your mad at yourself.

A fine won't work unless it's a ridiculous amount. A 5 minute penalty or a major equipment abuse might have more effect.
What did Ballard get for hitting his goalie, nothing? What do you think he would have gotten if he'd done the same to the opposing goalie, let's say after missing a wide open net, penalty/game misconduct/suspension/fine?

I agree a fine is too weak unless it's something ridiculous which is good too. A suspension or a misconduct penalty would be a consideration as well. In this case you know he's privately paying for this in the dressing room but something more public should be made of it.

A 5 minute unsportsmanlike penalty would cure those tantrums real fast.

There's no such thing as a 5-minute unsportsmanlike penalty. There'd have to be a new rule introduced.

Ballard feeling bad about his actions isn't enough.

Where are the coaches and trainers in all this? They are the ones who control the icetimes. If one of my players was that out of control on the ice. He'd be pulling splinters out of his ass from riding the bench. Coaches need to step up and take control of their players.

Does anyone know the extent of Vokun's injuries?
I dunno but, I'm thinkin Ballard should be suspended for a long time, if not permanently. I realize it was accidental but players REALLY need to keep control of their sticks. Either that or suspend him for as long as Vokun is out, without pay! I know that might seem unfair to the rest of the Florida team but I feel this should be the punishment any time a player either attempts to injure another, or injures another through complete recklessness.

Well, kind-of, yeah. That's how it reads.

His tantrum was no worse than watching a baseball player toss every bit of gear out of the dugout. Unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty at the worst. There are no penalties for hitting your team mate.
