The standards still must be reviewed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency


If the new standards make sense then they'll be accepted. If they don't then they won't.

That simple.

Won't matter anyway. The toxic water is less likely to kill you outright than the sinkhole the extraction of that same water caused. :P

As I am reading this I'm seeing that the 'weakened' rules are actually better rules.

The updated rules reduce criteria for 'toxins' (like salt) that naturally intrude into fresh water estuaries during unusual high tide events. The new rules ADD 39 chemicals to regulation that are new since the last update.

No man-made pollutants are deregulated here. 43 specific pollutants do have their standards updated to align with current Federal standards - which means if you don't like those standards then the guy to bitch at is right here:
