I didnt know that this was a sore spot among feminists... I guess we can rejoice that women are now equal in the work place. Another non-story.

I don't know. Its certainly newsworthy isn't it? Its not like the boats getting a grand send off by military and political brass in a major pomp & circumstance affair right?

I guess that the most important step was when the Navy finally allowed women crew members ON the ships.
If must have been extremely hard for those girls.
Natural progression to have one as commander.

But we're guys, we wouldn't understand.

The fact she doesn’t have a penis isn’t news worthy... also that the point out how many women are on the crew is just silly. They are all sailors, what does it matter which chromosomes you have?

Ok. How about this. It was the same type of news stories reporting when Canada takes on a leading role in a taskgroup right. Why report nationality of the task group leader when it should be sufficient just to post general info about us being part of a task group?

Maybe you might feel different if you had the other set of choromosomes.

Of course this is news. I think it's important for Canada and Canadians to know that we don't hold someone back because of their sex, race, religion, wahtever. Maybe you can't understand the significance, but others can.

Besides, if this is such a bee in your bonnet, why are you even commenting on it? Why not just ignore it and let it fade to irrelevance?

I'm sure we are all well aware of that already, most kids learn it in public school.

I'd be even more impressed if she only spoke English..........or maybe that's not something they allow.

DND doesn't allow unilingual Canadians to be promoted beyond a certain rank don't they?

Bilingualism removes people that can be more qualified to do the job, therefore you know she is the best person for the position. This only proves she's the best person who speaks two languages. It's been that way for decades.

Who says she was being held back because of her sex? She is just the first one, its not like after years of petitions and being denied she was accepted as the first female to do the job. She was just the best suited for the job, I dont think her tits have anything to do with it.

Those aiming for these types of positions have plenty of time to learn the language so they're not really disqualifying anyone.
Anybody that disqualifies themself because they don't want to learn French has other problems.
You do what you have to do to get ahead.
Anybody from Quebec that doesn't know English has to learn it in the forces, no matter what position they're aiming for.

At least you didn't say they chose her because she's a woman.
