Partisanship slays me.

When the Conserviatives cut the contingency fund in half, all there were around here was the sound of crickets.

http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/governme ... -1.2338026

When they chopped all sorts of departments for things like Waterways Safety and Coast Guard stations . . .crickets.

But now that Trudeau wants to do the same, now people care?

Conservatives love cuts. "Cut, cut, cut," they scream. So they should be cheering Trudeau for this, no? :?

Actually it's still crickets because you guys are the only ones talking about it. :|

Here's something to chew on then. Trudeau agreed to cut the spill-response fund because he has no intention of approving any of the tidewater pipelines. Don't need a fund without them.

But but but the Conservatives did it. ROTFL

The only problem here is that the Conservatives weren't trying to save the world single handedly by introducing carbon taxes for everyone, green energy initiatives and they weren't promising the UN that Canada would be the world leader in combating climate change despite the fact that we produce less than one percent of the worlds pollution.

Other than that I agree that my post was partisan.

Hey here's a thought. For 9 years we were told we shouldn't use any Chretien comparisons when the Conservative Gov't fucked up or did hypocritical things so, why should you people be given carte blanche now?

Because someone has to start to get the ball rolling... and we all thought that you'd be the bigger man.

I dunno, this should make the pro pipe foamers ecstatic. The fund Trudeau is cutting is levied on the industry, ie it makes it easier/cheaper for companies to build pipes. So much for Thanos' cornspiracy theory. And I'm not sure what FOG is on about - this is Trudeau giving the industry a break. As a conservative, surely he's all for that, right?

We'll see. If a single one of these lines gets approved in the next three years before the next election I'll be surprised.

I'm pro pipeline and this is by far the dumbest thing they or any gov't Conservatives included could do especially since the current pipelines are deteriorating and will either require substantial upgrades or fail and if they can't pay for the cleanup, guess who gets to spring for the disaster?

But for the record I don't remember seeing any posts on here about the Conservatives doing this and I couldn't find any articles on google that said they did it because I would have gone after them the same as I did the Liberals because stupidity is non partisan.

They don't care about mundane concerns like equipment replacement because they enjoy too much the high horse of being 100% anti-pipeline and 100% anti-oil. Accidents are actually what they want because it feeds their furnace even more, even if it happens on a fifty year-old line that's existed for that entire length of time without any incidents at all but finally succumbs to the basic physics and chemistry of metal failure. This is a war of ideology and always will be, and right now basic common sense is losing really badly.

I'm all for pipes as long as they pay their way. That means any company involved needs to have bonds or insurance sufficient to cover all costs associated with a spill, including lost economic activity. So we're talking billions. If the risks land squarely on the shoulders of the companies involved, maybe they'll take better care in preventing them in the first place. So no limits to liability. You want to play the game, you gots to pay.

thanks.

Just occurred to me that the argument for pipes is that otherwise the bitumen gets shipped by rail, which is more dangerous. Well, the same deal for the rail companies - put up sufficient collateral to pay for another Lac Megantic, so the govt doesn't get stuck with it. If that means all of a sudden it's not economic to ship the stuff by rail, so be it. Enough with having society subsidize business. The environment belongs to us all.
