Shareholders agreed to sell Canada this pipeline too, now that the question of expansion has reduced the value of it.

Decisions like this only will serve to reinforce the "the rest of Canada is against us" mindset some in Alberta have... You'll the appropriate bristling at Eastern Canada at this, and basically they just cost the Liberals Alberta (no big loss, I know...) and they probably just handed the UCP Alberta too.

It also signals to all the companies looking to invest in Canada that we are about as stable as the Argentinian Peso.

They'll get it pushed through. It's just a couple of assessments to redo. Hell, now that we're the sole owners of something that expensive, you can bet they'll write a quickie law up if necessary to make that pipeline specifically legal.

On the upside you'll soon be able have to buy all of your petroleum products from the United States.

Then you can tank up with fracked petrol from the Bakken and take a drive to Alberta to look at all of Canada's untapped wealth. :|

Now we can wait for the bands who signed off on this project and who are impacted directly by it to sue someones ass off for their loss of income like they did with the Northern Gateway pipeline and for the record I heartily agree with them.

Only in Canada could a bunch of malcontents who aren't "directly" affected by a project screw over an entire country in order to ensure their agenda is placed first.

I can't help but wonder why our judicial system seems intent on making us a third world country? The only winner in this debacle is the Americans since we'll now have to purchase our oil from them for decades longer or, at least until someone in this country comes to their senses which is something I doubt will happen anytime soon.

Given the idiotic ruling that ensures the status quo remains the same this decision can only be considered another win for Trump and his Make America Great Again program.

We are a nation of laws. Laws are blind for a reason. Let it play out. No way Canada doesn't get that pipeline built, when according to IPSOS, 56% of Canadians support it and only 24% oppose. Conservatives seem to always forget this 1 simple fact of government. WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT. We make the laws for ourselves. We get to choose what's best for ourselves.

Both Donald Trump and his best friends in OPEC will be dancing a jig over this one. Court quashes construction permits, KM shuts down construction of pipeline after it began only four days ago:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/tasker ... -1.4804495

$1:
In a stunning blow, the Federal Court of Appeal has quashed approvals to build the Trans Mountain expansion project, but the federal government is determined to proceed with the pipeline.

Today's ruling is a major victory for Indigenous groups and environmentalists opposed to the $7.4-billion project.

In the decision released Thursday, and written by Justice Eleanor Dawson, the court found the National Energy Board's assessment of the project was so flawed that it should not have been relied on by the federal cabinet when it gave final approval to proceed in November 2016.

The certificate approving construction and operation of the project has been nullified, leaving the project in legal limbo until the energy regulator and the government reassess their approvals to satisfy the court's demands.

In effect, the court has halted construction of the 1,150-kilometre project indefinitely.

In a statement, Kinder Morgan confirmed construction will now stop.

"Trans Mountain is currently taking measures to suspend construction related activities on the Project in a safe and orderly manner," the statement reads.

Alternate translation of the KM statement - "go home, boys, and don't expect a call-back anytime soon".

Is anyone really surprised, given how the internal mechanisms of this country usually operate?

I dunno why we have to ship/pipe through the mountains anyway. We had a port at Churchill not too long ago that was the best spot to export grain from land locked prairies.
Why isn't it also the cheapest way to get oil from the land locked prairies onto a boat?
Also, are there any endangered species etc swimming around Hudson's bay like there are on the left coast? Would this not be a better environmental shipping point? Maybe even a good refinery point?

I'm asking, because I really have no idea. Maybe there's an expert on CKA.
