Good to see the Ontario Liberals are still living the multi billion dollar dream.

To bad their dream will likely turn into a $2.5 billion dollar nightmare for the residents of Ontario. I wonder just how long the chairman can keep up spending like this before the whole place ends up making Greece look solvent by comparison.

Any debt repayment should come right from the Ontario Liberal Party and the taxpayers of Toronto.

The games are not particularly well publicized.

As far as the Ontario Liberals go ( and be perfectly clear that I am not one of them) I don't believe that these games are their "dream". Hamilton bid the darned things which is a patently stupid thing for a depressed city to do and Toronto bought in to provide the sort of venues that Hamilton never could. The Province is the guarantor of the whole mess but it wasn't their idea.

The Liberals had one hell of alot more to do with it than just being a guarantor but they'd like everyone to forget that.

$1:
It's mission accomplished for Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, Toronto Mayor David Miller and all other members of the delegation supporting Toronto's bid to host the 2015 Pan Am Games. On the first ballot of Friday's vote in Guadalajara, Mexico, Toronto was tapped as the host city.Nov 6, 2009

$1:
"Our commitment, our pledge, our undertaking, our promise is to provide you with the best Pan Am Games ever," McGuinty told delegates after the results were announced. "It's an exciting time for so many of us here."

That sure as hell sounds like the Liberals were a catalyst in getting the games and not just some sit back financier like they want you to believe. Without them leading the charge the Pan Am Games would never have gone to Toronto. It's the same as the winter Olympics out here. Without the Province doing all the grunt work and paying for them they wouldn't have gotten them either.

So it's a case of a great idea by the Provincial Gov't when it works but when it doesn't it's someone else's fault.

Incorrect.

This was the idea of the Ontario Liberals. Lifer Liberal, Bob Richardson specifically. McGuinty was the bid leader.

Hmmmm. Could be. I don't remember it that way. I remember Hamilton getting in waaaay over their heads and places like Toronto and Milton(!) bailing them out.

By the way, I was originally from Montreal I I've seen close hand the sort of damage that an event like this can do.

Interesting. I just went online to buy tickets to a Rugby 7s event for my son and I to watch. I was doing it from an Android tablet and I got bumped away from making the purchase because I didn't have A) the right Flash Drive version and B) an operating system that supports the downloading of the correct version. So, here I am, off the ticket selling site with my Visa in my hand and no money spent, no tickets sold to me. I will try again from a laptop with Windows but clearly, this is a sign of incompetence on somebody's behalf if they can't take my money because their software can't handle a popular type of device.

Government work indeed. Wait until I discover that they only accept MasterCard!

If it comes from Peter Mansbridge, , ,

it could be a bald-faced lie, I suppose.

Apple is probably suppling the computer services for the games and that leaves Android outside looking in.

It was never a Hamilton event to start with. It started in Toronto and that's where the games are centralized.

Still haven't bought my tickets yet in spite of trying.

These games might just be a bust if others like me can't buy their freakin' tickets!
