There's some economic responsibility! How the hell are 4 fighters going to help our air force?

From the comments:

$1:
Just think how many ISIS dump trucks we will be able to take out with 4 F35's.

Yea, that's why I don't read comments. If they can't understand that dump trucks can be employed to block rivers or break dams that can kill hundreds of thousands - well, you just can't fix ignorant sometimes. :(

But the sentiment I share. What's 4 F-35's worth, $320 Million? Wouldn't that go a lot farther toward a Coast Guard ship that we need much worse?

Those four F-35's would be the first of the fleet. They would be a signal that the full deal will be carried out - the purchase of about 60 of them.

We need to be planning for new planes. Our CF-18's are getting old.

The F-35 is s turd sandwich. Canada would do well to stay out of it and let the US eat the development costs. Maybe come back and get in for the F-35C but I'd skip at least the first two iterations of this thing.

You know, we hear that we should stay away from the F-35 pretty often, but the time that made the greatest impression on me was when I read an article on how bad the F-35 is on a Russian site, one of the state "newspapers" I think.

It was a long article singing the praises of the newest Sukhoi fighter in comparison to the endless flaws of the F-35. It made me think, "Gee, if they try so hard to diss the F-35, I think they may really fear the thing."

Maybe I'm way off base with this, but it's the gut feeling I got.

Isn't it a little early for a thread about flying turkeys?

Have they even established that these things can fly, yet? I'll bet that the "VTOL" feature that the Royal Navy is buying into is still just a blue screen video effect and that they can't hover for more than a few seconds, yet.

U.S. carrier trials started this week I think. Regular landings, not VTOL.

But hell, the RN is building two state-of-the-art carriers that have been designed to take the F-35. You gotta believe that everybody knows enough to know they gotta work.

They're balking at the purchase over there, as well. As it stands now, The QE carriers do not yet have an air arm. it almost sounds Canadian.
