Well done Liberals. I guess taking care of serving members is just another case of them asking for more than you can give.

No wonder nobody wants to server their country anymore. Successive gov't have ensured through their lack of support and commitment that the military is just there as window dressing to trot out honour guards when visiting dignitaries need some pomp and ceremony or to fill sandbags when some idiot politician demands they become an aide to civil power.

I blame all gov'ts for this debacle but most of all I blame the current one. All the previous ones held the status quo when it came to funding the health care of the troops after they shut down military specific facilities and it's only been this gov't that's had the gall to cut the troops health care funding and jeopardize their health.

Unbelievable and unacceptable. This has been coming for a long while the military has been cutting its medical for years but to not pay for services is beyond belief. I’m sure truedope is pissed that this has broken before the election. But the real questions are whether the vast population gives a crap there seems to be a large group that only care about the military when they think they need them. You know for snow removal and sand bags. And whether it will be a big story in all the major papers.

It’s unacceptable that they gouge the military by setting those exorbitant fees, which are paid by all Canadian taxpayers. They’re completely unjustified. They should not be allowed to turn military or any other Canadian away.

So you think it's fine that these soldiers sailors and airmen are denied medical services because the provincial and federal gov'ts can't agree on a what either side considers a fair price?

I can just imagine the howling if you or your family were denied health care because of a Conservative Gov'ts funding cuts, but since it was the Liberals it's apparently necessary because Trudeau's quest to buy a seat at the UN head table through foreign aide takes precedence over our military members health

As for the provinces gouging the federal gov't they don't seem to see it that way and even if they were gouging as you claim, they might think that it's a way to to get some of the health care funding monies back that a previous Liberal gov't cut when balancing their 1996 budget.

But to be honest it isn't gouging because they're charging the same as they would for any person without provincial health care coverage which is their legal right. All the Fed's are trying to do is force the provinces to comply with their cost saving model which means the Federal Gov't is failing in it's legal responsibility to ensure the health care requirements of the military are being met.


Although I will agree with you about one thing. Not one sailor soldier or airman should be turned away because of this debacle and as far as I'm concerned the Federal gov't (and that includes the winner of this election) should fucking nut up and reopen the closed military health care facilities because sending a military member to a non specialist is nothing more than passing the buck since they have zero understanding of the health issues and concerns facing military personnel.

This is the Provinces bending over the military and charging them the same medical fees as a person who is visiting Canada would get charged. That is bow cow effluent.

If the military members were not paying Provincial income tax I could see it. That Provincial income tax creates a subsidy for the health care system in the Provinces when they take the income tax money and apply it to the various provincial medical systems. The Provinces are double dipping on the backs of DND and RCMP (I think) members. They charge them the foreign visitor medical rate plus income tax for the same service that a civilian living here gets for half the price. The provinces want their cake and get to eat it as well. DND rightfully called them on their scam and now they are whining.

This has absolutely nothing to do with reducing coverage for our members. This has to do with DND (the Feds) not getting taken advantage of by the Provinces.

I have no issue with the higher fees if the Provinces want to offset those fees by not charging DND folks income tax.

I have mentioned before that there are two fee schedules in Ontario. I ran into it when I had to pay for a test. There is and always has been two fees set. If the federal government doesn’t like it they should talk to the provincial governments not just decide they aren’t paying it. They certainly shouldn’t be having their bun fight with the lives of our serving military personnel. It’s really unacceptable.

We've always paid provincial taxes even when our medical was solely a responsibility of and taken care of by DND so, while having no provincial taxes would be great that's not really the reason for the excess costs.

There is also another reason not mentioned for the extra costs being charged to DND for medical treatments and that's priority treatment. Military members take precedence over civilians for treatment and there's a reason for that. Can you imagine a soldier sailor or airman waiting 18 months to get an MRI and being medically categorized for that long when it's unnecessary?

Giving priority to military personnel through the civilian system is nothing new and has been done ever since we got rid of the surgical suites in our base hospitals decades ago. What people have to remember is that military members are on duty 24/7 and are subject to call outs at anytime so, they've always been given priority and it's always cost more. It's a simple fact. You want to go to the head of the line you pay more and DND knows this but failed to mention it in it's quest to make the provinces look like the bad guys.

I won't speak to other provinces but Worksafe BC pays alot more to get their injured workers priority treatment over the general population and yet there's no outcry about the system gouging them.

Yes it was refused but the current gov was favorable. We can all (well some of us) see how this is okay with the Libs but the veterans......oh noes we have no money.
