It's real. The RFID chips in nearly everything have been targets for years. People will microwave their clothes in order to fry the embedded RFID chips.

Most people just buy a "Faraday Cage" wallet to protect from people sniffing what's in their wallet.

From what I've read, there is only 1 chip. Whether it has an antenna or not is what makes it contactless.
