Not meaning to diminish what happened to this girl but sadly it should be a lesson to others like her, choose a DD before you go out drinking and make sure you know they don't drink all night. Deciding if some person you never chose as a DD before hand is sober based on their word, once your judgment if gone, is not a good idea.

Sadly I know my sister is guilty of this in the past, "oh the DD only had one drink so its no big deal." Yes one drink you saw, or remember, is it worth gambling your life on to save a $30 cab ride?

If you don't know if someone has been drinking then don't take a ride from them, if you see your DD drinking, don't assume it is their one and only for the night. Hell, screw DDs, just always take a cab, if you can't afford one then don't go out drinking.

Story is sad because it is a mistake that could have been prevented.

Until the fear of the punishment for drinking and driving is enough to scare
the shit out of someone with a drink in front of them, nothing will change
and people will continue to die and get injured for no reason.

As long as we treat driving drunk more like an accident and less than a serious life
threatening crime, we will be reading many many more stories like this.

Pray you never experience the stupidity.

If someone chooses to ride with a drunk driver, I think they are responsible for what happens to them. I don't have any more sympathy for them than if they had been the one driving drunk and were injured.

#1... The fear of punishment will not deter someone who's drunk from driving. Either he won't recognize that he's drunk or he just won't give a fuck.
#2... Never ask and/or believe someone if he's sober enough to drive. The answer will almost always be yes.

She had a .147 blood alcool level, said she was sober enough to drive and the other two women believed her... come on, I have trouble believing that one. 8O

#1 the fear kicks in before they start drinking. However, you are right, the ones who are really drunk won't care.. Fortunately, in Slovakia, there are very few, and in order
to get that stupid, you have to be really drunk... leading to a short drive wrapping yourself
around a tree.. no loss, job done.

#2 a no screwing around law removes the debate of "it's enough, it's not enough, I'm ok, I'm not ok."

Fear is not instrument number one, respect to other people is. Drunk crap on the road is like ticking bomb, you never know when and where.
