It was a little over the top, but it was a goal that sent the game into OT. If he continues acting like this then Don has a case.

Cut the kid a little slack FFS. But in all fairness he's always been critical of players over the top celebrations. Where is Dave Schultz when you need him? If Yakapov did this when he was playing it'd end up being "Nail Meet Hammer".

QBC was offering to collect funds for a hit on the BC Lions staff because of Geroy Simon being traded. Now if somebody were to take out a hit on Don Cerry I would be first in line to buck up! The only other sports personality I would like to see fitted with a pair of cement overshoes is that total jackass Sportsnet Pacific has hosting Sportsnet Connected, namely Don Taylor, (the mouth of the Fraser) who at most times sounds like Jerry Lewis doing his spastic imitation. I don't know which of the two I hate listening to more but would definitely feel no remorse at all if either one were ever heard of again..... Jackass #1 and #2

As he should be, he's talking to young players about this. People remember stuff like that, not always positively.

He's a 19 year old Russian kid playing in his 3rd NHL game, it was his 2nd goal in the big leagues and a game tying goal against the defending Stanley Cup champions with 5 seconds left in the game. Suck it up Don and let the kid enjoy his success while he can.

Don's consistent in that he's never liked showboating or hotdogging. He even gave shit to Sidney Crosby for some of the stunts he pulled back in junior that embarrassed the opposing players.

If he's still celebrating like that on his 15th goal, then Don might have a point. As it is though... anyone who say the look on the kids face knows that was genuine ecstasy, not showboating. If a good Canadian boy had done=the same Don wouldn't be making much of it, I'm sure.
Besides, who is he to talk about "over the top", those suits...

I guess Crosby and Fleury must be good European guys. Like Thanos said, Don has always spoke out against hot dogging, but those of you who don't like Don will ignore that.

Like Thanos said, Don has always spoke out against hot dogging True, but I don't think he'd call it "hot-dogging" if a player he liked had celebrated a big goal like that. I don't think it's at all unfair to say that Don is a lot harder on the european players than the north american. 2Cdo 2Cdo: but those of you who don't like Don will ignore that. I actually used to really like Don, but his grumpy old man act has been getting tiresome the last few years. He doesn't seem to see that there's a place for a bit of fun in the game.

I agree, the guy is just a parody of himself now. He's lost his entertainment value.
But I agree with him on this one. I like soccer of course, but can't stand the showboating. Anyone taking a stand against it in hockey, I will support.

Well, as pointed out, if it was a guy a year or more (hell even a few months) into his NHL career, then sure. But he's mere games into a career with two goals already and showing off some youthful exuberance. No one wants to see the bullshit of the NFL, but these odd examples of excitement shouldn't cause the flamboyant one to lose his mind and come off like an idiot.

meh, I thought Don had a point and that he made that point the same way he's made it 100's of times before. Hardly seems newsworthy, IMO.
