The Leafs are also THE most lucrative hockey franchise going. They're getting rich so what do the owners care?

In baseball, that would be the Yankees... hell of a difference though between the two when you look at the results both teams have attained in the last 10-15 years and what the owners have given to their fans.

It's a business, man and nothing more. So far, what they've given to their fans over the last half century has had no apparent bearing on the performance of the business.

It appears that professional sport's fans are just a bunch of deluded patsies from which money is harvested.

The owners apparently care enough to can the people most responsible for the Leafs' current performance, namely the general manager, the head coach and their assistants.

Otherwise, they could have just kicked back and kept on counting the money...

...which is exactly what's happening in Edmonton, where the Oilers finished six points and six wins behind the Leafs this season, and are the only other Canadian team not going to the playoffs.

Exactly why Lowe, MacTavish, Smith, Semenko and the rest of the old boys' club continues to rule the roost here, after almost a decade failure since the fluke Cup run (and the fact is, they weren't doing very well before the fluke Cup run, either) but Daryl Katz isn't willing to follow the lead of the Leafs' ownership despite both teams still being very profitable, is baffling.

What they need to do is learn how to use the goddam draft to build the team instead of trading away early round draft picks for players that have less than 5 years left in their careers or can't go a month without being sidelined by injuries.

I'm shocked the same guys are at the top in Edmonton. If anyone needs a house cleaning, it's Edmonton.
