Oh my God...
I'm not sure, in this day and age, why this story shocks me, but it does. Firstly, to abandon your child because he has Down's? I thought those days were decades gone. Good lord, Down's people are probably the most lovable, and the most decent of any human beings roaming this earth. How on earth could you abandon that privilege?
Secondly - any mother who would abandon their child because it wasn't "perfect" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean these days), doesn't deserve the privilege of being a mother to any child. Serves her right that she won't reap the rewards that beautiful little boy will bring the world.
Good on the father for being a real parent. A real dad. I hope he and little Leo have a long, happy, joyous adventure together.

Good for him! I was going to donate a few bucks, but when I went to his fund me page he was already doubled his goal so I think I'll save my money.

Unsound Unsound:

Yeah... he is a single parent now, though. And having Down's, the wee one will likely have a few medical issues (hopefully not severe ones as heart problems are extremely common with those little guys, I understand). I'm sure none of it would go to waste.

In New Zealand he'll get good care. I've used their system myself - very professional, very relaxed, don't rush you thru the way docs do here. Of course that was some time ago. I had to prepay, the claim from MSP. If I recall, I got almost all of the money I put out back - ie their system and ours were comparable as to cost.

I have no idea why the father would want to keep the child. It's not like people with Down's Syndrome will ever accomplish anything or do anything with their lives.

$1:
A punk band from Finland is looking to make this year’s Eurovision Song Contest a little more interesting.

PKN (Pertti Kurikan Nimipaivat) is a four-piece punk band whose members all have Down Syndrome—some are also autistic. They’ve been playing together for the last six years and were the centerpiece of a 2009 documentary called “The Punk Syndrome,” which explored the band as a vehicle for self-expression and raising awareness about Down Syndrome.

Well, I guess I was wrong 8)

And for those who are slow or enjoy a good trolling, my opening comment is laced with sarcasm so don't even bother.

What a Fucking Bitch. One look at that lil guy and tell me you could not fall in love with that face. So freaking cute. I am glad his father is doing all he can to do right by his son. [B-o]

The good news is that he got rid of 150+ Lbs of ugly fat and can look for someone not so shallow and selfish.

Apparently Armenia is a socially progressive country like the Netherlands in that they've embraced euthanasia for imperfect babies.

And why not?

Had this baby been aborted five minutes before it was born it wouldn't have made the news at all. :|

Nowhere did they say the baby would be killed.

In Canada, a civilized country, the foetus would not have been aborted after about 20 weeks, but long before that been tested for the condition giving the parents the option of what to do.

Maybe this will elevate the dad's social standing to where he can get a proper wife. I'm thinking a guy who moves from New Zealand to Armenia to be married might be a tad desperate, ie not done so well on the connubial market in NZ.

Could have had a Amniocentesis weeks after finding out they were pregnant, but the test is usually done when they feel there's a risk factor present.

I hope this was a rare care of a false negative with the test.

I doubt it was done, or there would be no baby. But who knows what they do in Armenia.
