Here's a guy who has a great future if he chose to come to Canada, he already has the government job skills down pat.

Big deal. Lots of government workers get paid to do nothing but generate union dues.

Big deal? Come on now, you don't believe that. Speak the truth, it's disgusting, absurd and insulting to pay someone that kind of money for that level of contribution.

You have those everywhere...

A friend of mine works for Hydro Québec and years ago, they hired a mathematician. Today, they have no need for a mathematician but can't get rid of her. She has a 6 figure salary and spends her days reading... she can't surf the net on company time though.

Sounds like they're trying to force this guy to retire, perhaps someone has a grudge against him. Shameful that they have to be so dishonest in their treatment of him.

Yeah shameful. Pay a guy $100,000 a year to work once in a blue moon. The guy should use his spare time to get into politics or do something constructive, since they fleece the taxpayer to pay for him to sit on his behind.

He gets "screwed" by his government by paying him six figures for little work, I get screwed by the cowardly security apparatus by them interfering in my desire to contribute to my country and my family's future.

I wish I were as lucky as him. The only thing I get to look forward to is Canada taking on large debt, massive, broad economic hardship from coast to coast and rampant bankruptcies for the next couple for decades. Not exactly the most exciting payback.

Force him to retire?? Oh yeah, getting paid $100K/yr to sit around and do nothing would certainly make me feel like I was being forced out of my job.

Of course you automatically take the low road on this. Ever heard of redundancy in govt? The last 2-3 years my father worked for the Fed his position was redundant, but they couldn't fire him either. Well, they potentially could have but by the time all the red tape had been gone through, he would have been retiring anyway.

He's obviously not happy about it, which is why he called the paper to complain. They're treating him like shit, you only do that to people you don't like and are trying to force out. Otherwise, they would just offer an exit package
