This is a lovely, sweet, feel-good story, but it's fabricated on a myth. The real Stanley Cup is at the Hockey Hall of Fame and it NEVER leaves. First, the original bowl that Lord Stanley donated (the "topper" of the current trophy) looks just like it did 100 years ago. It's had no "rings" added to it. It's never been altered.



Second, the expanded Stanley Cup that's become such an iconic image ALSO resides permanently in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The one that gets handed out to its winners and the one that gets passed around players' hometowns in the summer is a replica...a replica of a replica, actually.
